Linking Other Revit Models to Your Project Site Model

Linking other models to your Revit Project Site model

  • When you create new Revit models for your design ideas, link them to your Revit Project Site model to incorporate the site topography and context data.
  • Create a new Revit Project.
  • Save the new model as a Project to a folder on your local disk.
  • Then, upload this new project to your ACC folder using the Collaborate tool in the Collaborate tab of the ribbon.
    • Open the Collaborate > Collaborate tool choose the In The Cloud option to upload your model to your ACC project folder.
  • Open the the Insert > Link Revit tool, and navigate to Revit Site project (the Cloud Revit model in our ACC project folder).

Acquire the Coordinates from the Revit Site project

  • Switch to the default 3D view — so you can see an overview of the linked site model.
  • Open the Manage > Project Location > Acquire Coordinates tool.
  • Select the linked site model to acquire the coordinate system from the site model and apply it to your new Revit model.

Adjust the Project North direction in your Revit models

  • If your project site does not align well with the cardinal compass directions, you should adjust the Project North direction in your Revit models to make your modeling and drafting tasks easier.
  • To do this:
    • Draw a pair of orthogonal walls that align with the principal front-to-back and side-to-side directions for your new building.
    • Open the Manage > Project Location > Rotate Project North tool.
    • Use the Align selected line or plane option, then select on of your orthogonal walls to rotate the Revit elements in your model to better align with the drawing area and typical modeling tools snaps.

      💡
Note: Rotating the Project North does not affect the orientation of your building model elements relative to the cardinal compass directions. It only affects the rotation of your Revit elements relative to the drawing area and modeling tools snaps. The orientation of your building model elements will continue to be accurate relative to the cardinal compass directions and the sun.
