Tip

If Insight reports that it's having trouble connecting to Autodesk's servers from within Revit, try connecting to the Insight website directly using the Chrome browser.  Just go to:

Login using your Autodesk ID, and you'll be taken to the same interface -- but in a way that works more reliably.

Download Practice File:  Starting Point

  • Open the Generating Insights from a Conceptual Mass Model - Start model.
  • Generate Insights for this model.
    • Open the Generate tool.
    • Confirm whether you want to use the existing energy analytical model or update it.
    • Wait a few minutes as the insights are generated.
  • Open the Insight interface using the Optimize tool to view the simulation results.
  • Set the Insight interface preferences for viewing the results.
    • Click the Back to Insight link.
    • Open the Settings tool from the right toolbar in the Insight interface.
    • Set the desired:
      • Unit system: Imperial
      • Values to be rolled up: EUI
      • Sorting order for widgets: By Importance
  • Click on the project tile to return to the simulation results.
  • Set the Insight interface preferences for viewing the results.
  • Use the Benchmark Comparison tile to see how the current assumptions for your project compare to the ASHRAE 90.1 and Architecture 2030 benchmarks.
  • Click the Location tile to view the location and weather station information.
  • Use the Visualization menu (at the top of the Insight interface) to visualize:
    • Photovoltaic (PV) Analysis

When you have completed this exercise, your model should look like this:
