Importing Revit 2013 gbXML into Ecotect Analysis 2011

When you import gbXML files from Revit 2013 into Ecotect Analysis, you may receive the following error message:

Ecotect-gbXML Error-1

This error is being presented because the gbXML export file that Revit 2013 produces is not encoded in a format Ecotect recognizes (and for some reason triggers this somewhat misleading IFC error message).

Unlike earlier versions, Revit 2013 exports gbXML files in the UTF-16 format, whereas Ecotect expects UTF-8.

The simplest way to fix this problem is to open the gbXML file in Windows Notepad and Save As to create a new file, changing the format (in the Encoding pull-down menu) to UTF-8.

Ecotect-gbXML Error-2
The gbXML should then import without problem.
